" I am so thankful to have had the career I have had . I don't know how much longer it will last but it is amazing that the band is getting a reaction from audiences that bands just dream about.. Especially when we do our 60's and Beatles . The entire crowd is singing every word to the songs, dancing in their seats for one or 2 songs, then jumping up and dancing and singing along the entire night. The boys along with White Shadow Family member Bobby Helbig are enjoying doing their Beatle tribute show called the “Beatle Maniacs” and it has been a great success. AS YOU KNOW BY NOW the boys have also put together a special Elvis Tribute show called The "Live" Elvis Lives Band . The reviews are great, the music and the voices are a very close impersonation of the KING, and the Jordonaires. The costumes Jerry wears are hilarious and the drumming is done by jerry's son Sebastian. Check White Shadow Band schedule for up coming Elvis sightings!
The White Shadow Band started in New Hampshire in 1974; Jerry’s last year in college. Fred Lake who just visited patton from new Englnd had a singles act called Frederick. he was joined by Phil Baskin and that duo was also called Frederick. jerry answered an ad for a drummer he saw in a music store in Manchester New Hampshire and was hired by Fred and Phil to form a trio ,also called Frederick. Andy Rhody the came to new hampshire to visit jerry and joined the band which now was going to pick a new name . The agent for the band suggested they choose a new name so people would now it was a full band and not think it was a single called frederick. One of the reasons the boys settled on the name White shadow was they would be playing at all the great ski resorts in New England and it was going to be very white everywhere they went. After a few months, the band relocated their home base back in Jerry’s home town of Patton, PA. From there, the band continued to travel for 10 years. Road trips took the band to 18 states including Florida, where the band spent numerous winters.
Phil Baskin, another original member of White Shadow who actually helped form the band and pick the name, but did not make the move to PA, has been discovered living in of all places, Altoona . We hope he will be able to come and sit in with us some time soon. Oh as mentioned in the above update Phil did in fact sit in last week at the Christmas jam in patton at the Thirsty Dawg. Phil was one of our lead vocalists and played numerous instruments as well back in 74.
Andy Rhody, a native of Patton, multi talented musician was invited up to New Hampshire to help form the original band. After years of solo work and other projects, Andy returned to the White Shadow Band in the late 90's. Andy also helped Jerry and the boys over the years as he would serve as stage tech helping to shuttle and set up stages when the band would play 3 and sometimes 4 engagements in one day. The band would often do 2 wedddings, a night club and an after hours gig in the same day, and Andy would be tearing down equipment from the 1st gig and setting it up at the 3rd gig , and then taking the equipment from the second gig and setting it up at 4th one . Andy Rhody will be taking another period of time off again. . Andy will be sitting in for special occasions until he once again returns to steady appearances with his friends.
Current guitarist Johann Von Schrenkel joined the band in 1992 and actually has more years service to the band than any one else who has been with the band, 20 years. Andy has the second most time with the band, 13 full time years.
Harry Young, keyboard player, has worked off and on with the group since 1990. Harry is one of the finest keyboard players in Pennsylvania .. NO MAKE THAT THE FINEST KYBOARD PLAYER ANYWHERE AND HE PLAYS BASS NOW WITH HS LEFT HAND AND SINGS LEAD AND HARMONY . A TREAT TO LISTEN TO AND WATCH especially if you've ever taken piano lessons!!!!!!!!
Tim Homerski, One of the greatest all around musicians anywhere can play guitar bass keyboards trumpet sax flute violin and more . He also has a great singing voice . he also arraged all the harmonies when playing full time with the band .Tim first joined the band in 1976 has played off and on with the group a total of 7 full time years. Tim still sits in with the band.
Tim is exteremly valuable especially when Johann has to take an occasional business trip to South America, Central America, Europe or Canada for his day job. Johann is a sales rep for a company from California and he is required to use his mastery of 6 languages to perform his job.
Bob Helbig, from the 1976-1981 version of the band, is also one of the former members who often sits in with his old friends. Bob is a key part of the Beatlemaniac show.
White Shadow is the the longest running rock and dance show in Western Central, PA. and has been helped by many musician friends through the years including tim Kelley , Jeff leaper, Joe Diedericks, fran litzinger, patty helbig, felix kos, bobby watters , Jim Wyland, Ron Weber, John Smarsh. terry Crook, Mike Gaeta , bridgette smith, jeff Michaels, Steve Dickson, Robin Mc Naughton , Jeff Michaels, Patty mc connel , Phil Buchannon , John Pizino Danny Miller,grant mazak, pat repshure, Fred lake , johnny alemprese , Denny haire, wally chidboy, sebastian carnicella Maria carnicella and Adam d.
Though Jerry actually semi-retired from the 6 and 7 night a week schedule in 1992, the calls just keep on coming for the band to appear. The band is known for its strong vocal ability, harmony, and dancabiltiy. White Shadow never abandons a great song and when one of the old guys sits in they can usually play an entire night of songs the band was doing when that particular player was with them. The song list is now made up of hundreds of songs from the 50’s to the 90’s. An occasional classic country song may also be heard. Music from Elvis, The Beatles, The Rockabilly Stars, The Beach Boys, All the Classic 60’s, The Doobie Brothers, BTO, The Who, Grand Funk, Lynyrd Skynrd , Steppenwolf, All the Classic 70’s, An Entire Night of 80’s, and much, much more can be heard upon request.
